Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is changing the way stroke patients receive treatment. Tampa General Rehabilitation Hospital recently introduced an AI-powered device to bring speed and efficiency to the recovery process.

BIONIK's InMotion Robotic Arm: The Future Of Stroke Treatment

Tampa General Rehabilitation Hospital is one of the first medical facilities in Florida to implement BIONIK's InMotion robotic arm to treat stroke patients. Through the use of activities and games, therapy for stroke patients is more interactive and fun than ever before. And with that, there's a greater chance of the patient reaching their full recovery potential while avoiding the tedious nature of more traditional therapy. 

"It's more motivating for the patient. They can see real-time progress, they're more engaged in their therapies," said occupational therapist Samantha Rubio in an interview with ABC Action News Tampa Bay.

"The artificial intelligence in the device is actually very subtle, you wouldn't notice it to the naked eye. When the patient comes in, we do an evaluation where the robot learns what their current range of motion is, their current strength and what areas we still need to work on."

In other words, if the patient isn't told that BIONIK's InMotion robotic arm is powered by AI technology they'd never know. There's nothing that glaringly sticks out to the patient about the device. All they know is that the technology has the potential to improve their experience as they recover. 

Regardless of the severity, a stroke is a major medical event that can impact a person's ability to live their life. Through the use of BIONIK's InMotion robotic arm at facilities such as Tampa General Rehabilitation Hospital, patients have more hope during recovery, which gives them a better outlook on the future. 

There's a stigma that therapy has to be a long, arduous and even torturous task that generates only incremental results. AI technology is changing this as it motivates patients and gives them the hope they need to continue down the recovery path.
