In response to a user’s request for an integrated messaging platform, Elon Musk took to X, formerly Twitter, to announce his commitment to the project.
What Happened: Over the weekend, the tech billionaire confirmed his ongoing efforts to integrate iMessage, WhatsApp, and Signal into a unified text communication platform following a post from a user on X who wished for such integration.

The revelation aligns with Musk’s ambition to transform X into an “everything app.” The tech mogul’s vision for X encompasses diverse functionalities, including audio, video, messaging, payments, banking, and a global marketplace for ideas, products, services, and opportunities.
Last month, it was reported that Musk’s social media platform may collect users’ biometric data and personal employment and education histories. This information could be used to recommend potential job opportunities, share profiles with prospective employers, and facilitate employer-candidate connections.
Previously, X CEO Linda Yaccarino also emphasized the potential of Musk’s vision, describing it as the future of “unlimited interactivity” that transcends conventional boundaries.
Why It’s Important: The EU’s Digital Markets Act or DMA, approved by European lawmakers last year, compelled messaging app owners, such as Meta Platforms Inc.’s META WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Apple Inc.’s AAPL iMessage, to ensure interoperability when requested by other companies.
This move aimed to provide users with greater messaging app choices, enabling cross-platform messaging and enhancing functionality.
However, concerns regarding the impact on end-to-end encryption due to this move have been raised ferociously, as achieving interoperable encryption poses technical challenges and potential security risks, reported WIRED.
