Google Admits Gemini Is 'Missing The Mark' After Internet Flooded With AI-Generated Images Riddled With Basic Errors

After Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Google Gemini came under fire for generating irrelevant images or flat-out refusing to do so, the tech giant has admitted that the chatbot has been "missing the mark."

What Happened: On Wednesday, the Google Communications account on X, formerly Twitter, posted the statement on the platform saying, "We’re aware that Gemini is offering inaccuracies in some historical image generation depictions."

In a separate post, Google executive Jack Krawczyk, assured that immediate actions are being taken to rectify these errors.

He said, "We design our image generation capabilities to reflect our global user base, and we take representation and bias seriously. We will continue to do this for open ended prompts (images of a person walking a dog are universal!)."

"Historical contexts have more nuance to them and we will further tune to accommodate that," Krawczyk added.

Why It's Important: The statements came after several people, including tech billionaires like Paul Graham and Marc Andreessen, took to social media platforms to express dissatisfaction with the Gemini chatbot.

Benzinga also ran some prompts to verify the criticism and found that the chatbot was not even able to generate the images of parent-company's founders

It is important to note that on its website, Google Gemini includes the following disclaimer:”Gemini may display inaccurate info, including about people, so double-check its responses.”

Earlier in February, Gemini generated fictional statistics for Super Bowl 2024 despite the accurate information displayed in Google search results.
