Cuban said about the tech industry, &#8220;Watching what&#8217;s happened in Silicon Valley is insane.&#8221; He explained that it&#8217;s no longer just about supporting political figures like Donald Trump – there&#8217;s something bigger and more worrying going on. &#8220;They want Trump to be the CEO of the United States of America, and they want to be the board of directors that makes him listen to them. What's Happened In Silicon Valley Is Insane,' Says Mark Cuban – 'They Want Trump To Be The CEO Of The United States of America'

Target Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TGT#NYSE">TGT</a>) and Ross Stores, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ROST#NYSE">ROST</a>) should <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/08/40393307/why-is-target-corporation-stock-gaining-today">post better revenues</a> for the second quarter as consumers continue spending despite macro uncertainties, according to analysts from Tesley Advisory Group.
Analyst Joseph Feldman expects Target&#8217;s second-quarter revenue to improve 2% from a year ago to $25.3 billion when it reports earnings on Wednesday before the market opens. His forecast exceeds FactSet revenue consensus of $25.2 billion.
&#8220;Broadly, we believe consumers are showing resiliency as they continue to search for value and focus on essentials, while selectively spending on discretionary items and responding to innovation and newness,&#8221; Feldman wrote in a note on Target, commenting on shoppers in general.
Target continues to focus on its value-offering by cutting prices while offering private brands in new stores, he said.
Feldman maintains an Outperform rating and a $190 price target on Target shares.

&#8220;We continue to be encouraged by ROST's string of strong results across the past five quarters, with the business navigating macro challenges relatively well despite outsized pressure on some of its core consumers,&#8221; she wrote in a note.
&#8220;We are encouraged by management's efforts to improve the product mix and drive efficiencies across the business.&#8221;
She maintains a Market Perform and $160 price target on the stock.

&#8220;Working with Elon was like working with two different people: the good Elon and the bad Elon, and you never knew which you were going to get,&#8221; Cantrell said.&nbsp;
His good side was fun and charming and&nbsp;filled with big ideas, but his bad side consisted of&nbsp;a lot of frustration and yelling, as if nothing was ever good enough for Musk, he said.&nbsp;
He didn&#8217;t share any details on his pay, but according to data scraped from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/SpaceX-Salaries-E40371.htm">Glassdoor</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Spacex/salaries">Indeed</a>, the rocket company&nbsp;is willing to pay up for talent.&nbsp;
Production supervisors average $102,000 per year, software engineers make about&nbsp;$172,000 per year, launch engineers can make up to $238,000 and even the interns are paid well. Hourly interns at SpaceX average about $54,000 and salaried interns average closer to $75,000 a year.&nbsp;
The former SpaceX employee noted that Musk was&nbsp;always thinking big, and he would&nbsp;expect you to do the same if you worked there.&nbsp;

&#8220;Elon wouldn&#8217;t expect you to do anything he wouldn&#8217;t do, but the lengths he&#8217;s willing to go is unusual for most people. I suspect the same thing will happen at Twitter,&#8221; Cantrell said.&nbsp;
In an interview last year, Musk revealed that he had cut about 80% of X&#8217;s staff following his $44 billion takeover of the social media platform. Maybe that&#8217;s because the remaining employee salaries are so high.
Data from Glassdoor and Indeed indicates that directors and group managers make more than $235,000 per year, data scientists average around $167,000 and analysts make close to $135,000 per year — and that&#8217;s not all.&nbsp;
In March of last year, a leaked email to staff revealed that the billionaire <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/03/31503536/elon-musk-offers-twitter-employees-stock-grants-valued-at-about-20-billion-stock-granted-now-would-b">offered stock grants</a> to Twitter employees at a $20 billion valuation. The grants will vest over four years, and Musk seems to be pretty optimistic about the future value of the platform.

What Happened: Anupreeta Das, a finance editor at The New York Times, writes that Gates&#8217; intense work ethic, which was a hallmark of his tenure at Microsoft Corporation, has continued at the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation, established in 2000, had an endowment of $75.2 billion as of December 2023.

"What comes through about Gates for many is the fear he inspires for a number of things," Das wrote.

Das wrote in that meetings were usually held in a large room. "Strict etiquette was followed. One former senior executive who participated in many of the meetings said they had the feel of a king holding court, as though Gates were Louis XIV and the employees were courtiers bowing and scraping before him in Versailles, hoping to earn their ruler's favor," she wrote.

One former foundation employee told Das, "He's the scariest person in the world to provide a recommendation or briefing to."
"He scans a page and comes back at you saying something like, ‘What you say in the footnote on page 9 does not match with the footnote on page 28,&#8217;" the employee added.
"The low hum of fear was a constant presence inside the foundation. Fear could be instilled from just one email from Gates asking about a grant application or for a task to be done,&#8221; she wrote in the book. 
"There might be as many as 100 emails among employees — after taking [Gates] off the chain — trying to decipher what he meant, why he meant it, and how they should follow through," Das wrote.
However, Gates Ventures, Gates&#8217; personal office, has dismissed these allegations, arguing that the book relies heavily on hearsay and anonymous sources, and includes sensationalized claims and outright lies.
The Gates Foundation responded to the allegations by highlighting its 25-year history of partnering with others to save and improve millions of lives globally. A spokesperson stated that the foundation remains committed to addressing the most daunting challenges in global health and development.
Despite the high-pressure work environment, many Gates Foundation employees continue to hold Gates in high regard for his significant contributions to the tech and philanthropy sectors.

President Joe Biden may have been forced out of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/2024-election">presidential election </a>by Nancy Pelosi, according to a new report.
What Happened: Pelosi is one of several prominent Democratic Party members believed to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/07/39844101/pelosi-tells-biden-he-cant-beat-trump-shell-do-everything-in-her-power-to-prevent-2024-run">have put pressure</a> on Biden to make a decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential election.
A new <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13748441/Nancy-Pelosi-forced-Biden-quit-brutal-phone-call-ultimatum.html">report</a> from The Daily Mail, citing sources close to matters, said Pelosi gave Biden an ultimatum ahead of his decision to drop out. Pelosi reportedly told Biden that he needed to drop out of the race or she would publicly say she didn't think he could defeat Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
The conversation happened while Biden was at a family home in Delaware recovering from COVID-19. The report said the conversation came after 50 years of friendship between Biden and Pelosi and now has both Joe and First Lady Jill Biden furious.
A source told The Daily Mail that the reported phone call between Biden and Pelosi sparked a "come to Jesus moment" for the current president and led to him drafting a withdrawal letter.
Pelosi and the White House have denied that a phone call took place.
In his first interview since dropping out of the race, Biden <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/president-biden-speaks-on-stakes-of-2024-election-protecting-democracy-and-his-place-in-history/">told</a> CBS News Sunday Morning that it was members of his own Democratic Party that pushed him out of the election.
"A number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was going to hurt them in the races," Biden said.

Joachim Klement, an investment strategist with Panmure Liberum, has calculated that the implementation of tariffs proposed by Trump could cause a 1.2 percentage point surge in inflation during the first year.
He said, "Basically assume that next year inflation in the U.S. is, say, 2.5% on average, with the trade war it would go up to 3.7%."
Klement told the outlet that he doesn't expect a trade war to push the U.S. into recession next year. However, the impact on the U.S. economy will depend on the trade war's severity, and the Federal Reserve's response to the rising inflation that follows. "Obviously the problem is, if you push inflation close to probably — for individual months — maybe even higher than 4%, that means the Fed has to react. It means the Fed might have to start hiking interest rates again. That's when you get into trouble," he added.

As the election approaches, a new series of polls shows widespread majority support for cannabis legalization, federal rescheduling and banking access among likely voters in three key presidential battleground states: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
The results also come as observers await a formal statement from the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump, about where he stands on a recreational legalization measure that'll be on the ballot in Florida, where he's a resident.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has stated that one of the main reasons why Floridians should reject a measure of adult-use recreational cannabis for adults in November is that the smell of people smoking will make the state a less enjoyable place to live or visit.
To combat that concern, Sarasota Republican state Sen. Joe Gruters, who has already endorsed the ballot initiative, said Thursday that he'll introduce legislation next year that bans smoking in all public places in Florida.

The New York State Cannabis Control Board approved 86 adult-use cannabis licenses this month. 53% of those are held by social and economic equity licensees, 22 (13%) are women-owned businesses and 18 (10%) are minority-owned businesses.

Where the Hell is Beeks?
It's been over a month since Joe Biden stepped aside and Kamala Harris elevated to the top of the ticket and I don't know about you but I expected to hear more about cannabis since she's <a href="https://toddharrison.substack.com/p/did-pot-just-pivot">been pro-canna legalization for some time</a>.
While the issue is stirring behind the scenes—Kamala nabbed a pro-pot Tim Walz as her running mate and perhaps more notably, we saw<a href="https://toddharrison.substack.com/p/the-super-bowl"> potentially positive posturing from the former President</a>—the silence has been deafening on the national stage.
One possible reason for the radio silence from the left is that it would be difficult to stump on "finishing the job" until they've actually completed the first phase. We know <a href="https://toddharrison.substack.com/p/dc-dogs-and-ponies?utm_source=publication-search">where she stands</a>, we think, so perhaps her quietude is a function of sequencing.
I get it ofc, but she's left an important political plank exposed if <a href="https://toddharrison.substack.com/p/the-trump-card?utm_source=profile&amp;utm_medium=reader2">President Trump</a> is paying attention—and given <a href="https://x.com/CollinRugg/status/1824500378483970542">the debate advisor</a> he pulled in today, he likely will be.
The Democratic National Convention starts on Monday so there's that, too.
