The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed some improvement in the overall market sentiment, while the index remained in the &#8220;Neutral&#8221; zone on Thursday.
U.S. stocks settled higher on Thursday, with the Dow Jones index gaining more than 150 points as investors assessed the recent earnings reports from mega-cap tech stocks.
Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) reported weaker-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings and sales results. The company, meanwhile, said it expects its vehicle business to return to growth in 2025. Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter sales results on Wednesday. Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) reported its second-quarter GAAP earnings of $3.23 per share, beating the $3.11 consensus estimate.
President Donald Trump confirmed Thursday the United States will impose 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico starting Saturday, Feb. 1.
On the economic data front, U.S. initial jobless claims fell by 16,000 from the previous week to 207,000 in the week ending January 25, compared to market estimates of 220,000. The U.S. economy expanded at an annualized rate of 2.3% in the fourth quarter, down from 3.1% in the previous quarter and versus market estimates of 2.6%.
Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a positive note, with utilities, real estate and health care stocks recording gains on Thursday. However, information technology stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session lower.
The Dow Jones closed higher by around 169 points to 44,882.13 on Thursday. The S&amp;P 500 rose 0.53% to 6,071.17, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.25% at 19,681.75 during Thursday's session.
Investors are awaiting earnings results from Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>), Chevron Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>) and Phillips 66 (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PSX#NYSE">PSX</a>) today.
At a current reading of 48.1, the index remained in the &#8220;Neutral&#8221; zone on Thursday, versus a prior reading of 46.5.

On Thursday, Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) launched its RTX 5090 and 5080 graphics cards, only to see them sell out almost immediately.
What Happened: The highly anticipated Nvidia Series 5000 GPUs sold out rapidly, leaving many gamers frustrated, <a href="https://in.ign.com/nvidia-rtx-5080/223698/news/nvidia-rtx-5090-and-5080-sell-out-instantly-and-scalpers-are-already-cashing-in-with-6000-ebay-listi">reported</a> IGN. The GPUs were anticipated to have limited availability, a fact Nvidia had previously warned about.
Despite the warning, eager buyers lined up at <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/01/43242360/jensen-huang-mania-mirrors-taylor-swift-people-are-camping-outside-retailers-for-nvidia-5000-series-gpus">U.S. distributor Micro Center</a>, hoping to secure one of the coveted cards.
However, the limited stock led to scalpers listing the RTX 5090 on eBay for over $6,000, a significant markup from its $1,999 MSRP, the report noted.

Third-party manufacturers also increased prices, with the Asus ROG Astral model reaching $2,799.
As a result, gamers expressed their frustration online, with some calling it a &#8220;paper launch&#8221; due to the lack of available stock.
Why It Matters: The scarcity of these GPUs is partly due to a design flaw in Nvidia&#8217;s Blackwell-based processors. This flaw affected production yields, impacting the availability of the RTX 5090 and 5080.

EV giant Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) has marked the option for white interiors as sold out on its launch series of the refreshed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/01/43221344/tesla-model-y-pricing-evolution-cuts-hikes-refreshes-over-two-years">Model Y vehicle</a> in the U.S., even before deliveries have commenced. 
What Happened: Tesla launched the refreshed Model Y in the U.S.<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/01/43183608/tesla-launches-refreshed-model-y-in-us-with-25-price-hike-full-self-driving-included"> earlier this month</a>. Deliveries of the launch series of the long-range all-wheel drive variant of the refreshed vehicle, priced at $59,990, are slated to start in March. 
Launch series refers to a limited edition of the vehicle with exclusive badging and more that the company intends to make to celebrate the start of production. 
However, the option for customizing the Launch series vehicle with white interiors is already marked as sold out on Tesla&#8217;s U.S. website. Customers now have only the option to opt for an all-black five-seat interior. 
As for exterior paint options, the company has listed just quicksilver, ultra red, pearl white multi-coat, and stealth grey in the U.S. In China, however, the company has also listed an option for glacier blue exterior paint on the vehicle. 
Why It Matters: Tesla CEO Elon Musk&nbsp;said on Wednesday that all of the company's many factories will start producing the new Model Y vehicle starting in February but will <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43328898/elon-musk-warns-teslas-new-model-y-will-result-in-several-weeks-of-lost-production-for-ev-giant-in-q1">lose production in the days of retooling factory.</a>
The CEO also warned that margins will be impacted due to idle capacity and other ramp-related costs. However, these challenges will be overcome once production is ramped, he said.
While in the U.S., the refreshed vehicle is listed alongside older versions of the vehicle, in China, it replaced the older version. In both geographies, deliveries are slated to start in March.
Model Y is manufactured at Tesla's factory in California, as well as its gigafactories in Shanghai, Berlin, and Texas.

Tesla Marks White Interiors On Launch Series Of Refreshed Model Y As Sold Out Before Deliveries Begin

Piper Sandler&nbsp;analyst Clarke Jeffries initiated coverage on&nbsp;Synopsys Inc&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SNPS#NASDAQ">SNPS</a>) with an Overweight rating and a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/SNPS/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">price target of $665</a>.



The analyst noted that from solid hyperscaler and data center activity, Synopsys has seen a substantial improvement in metrics over the past four years, growing at 15% CAGR and expanding operating margins by 1000bps since 2019.&nbsp;



Two transformative transactions could line up Synopsys for further margin expansion,&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/m-a/24/01/36646413/why-is-ansys-stock-trading-lower-tuesday" rel="noreferrer noopener">including the acquisition</a>&nbsp;of margin accretive&nbsp;ANSYS, Inc&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ANSS#NASDAQ">ANSS</a>) with hundreds of millions in potential synergies in the years following the close and the sale of the Software Integrity Group (SIG), as over 90% of the margin expansion in the last three years has come from the Semiconductor &amp; System Design group, not SIG, as per Jeffries.&nbsp;



While the integration of Ansys &amp; the horizon for potential synergies create higher execution risk, he noted the sale of SIG will be a positive catalyst that reorients the conversation on core margin expansion soon.&nbsp;



More so than its competition, Synopsys has substantially invested in building a diverse product portfolio of semiconductor and system design tools, including becoming the largest provider of non-processor semiconductor IP (25% of revenue), which are design tools for reusable building blocks in chip design like memory, storage, I/O interfaces, Jeffries said.&nbsp;



With chips and systems seeing disaggregation with multi-die and multi-chiplet, Synopsys should be well positioned to address a longer tail of future designs as the proliferation of electronics in products continues, the analyst said.



While diversification into SIG, systems design &amp; design IP helped Synopsys grow double digits over the last decade, 12% CAGR, margin expansion from 2013 to 2019 was minimal (+100bps) even as revenue rose from $2 billion to $3.3 billion over the same period, he flagged.



However, in recent years, the story has changed. Jeffries said that Synopsys has seen a substantial acceleration in growth and operating margin expansion since 2019, with a 15% revenue CAGR and 1000bps of operating margin expansion.&nbsp;



This helped propel SNPS to being one of the best-performing software stocks over the last five years, with ~400% return vs. ~80% average return across Cloud stocks.



Jeffries projected second-quarter revenue and EPS of $1.44 billion and $2.93.



Synopsys stock gained 53% in the last 12 months. Investors can gain exposure to the stock via&nbsp;ProShares Nasdaq-100 Dorsey Wright Momentum ETF&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQA#NASDAQ">QQQA</a>) and&nbsp;Themes Cloud Computing ETF&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CLOD#NASDAQ">CLOD</a>).



Last week,&nbsp;Needham&nbsp;reiterated a buy rating on Synopsys with a $660 price target. Check out more&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/SNPS/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">bullish ratings</a>&nbsp;by various analysts on SNPS.
