(PRWEB) March 1, 2010 -- Modern Jive, the stylish, addictive and wildly popular dance that has taken England, Australia and New Zealand by storm in the past few years is finally coming to Toronto, Canada, courtesy of Jive Nation Toronto.

"Toronto has one the richest and most vibrant dance scene in the world, yet modern jivers have found it almost impossible to find classes," says Jive Nation Toronto founder Nicky Heatherington who attended weekly Modern Jive classes in her hometown of London, England. "There's a real gap in the Toronto dance scene – one Jive Nation Toronto is ready to fill."

Modern Jive is a dance that brings together a mix of many dance moves including Rock' n' roll, Latin, Salsa, Hip-Hop and Ballroom. It is one of the easiest and most enjoyable dance forms to learn - as well as one of the most fun.

"Many dance classes focus on where to put your feet," says Nicky. "New dancers often worry about their feet and where to put them. They get discouraged if they don't make progress quickly. Rather than fixate on how to move your feet Modern Jive classes focus on learning basic moves. Classes are aimed at people with little or no dance experience, making it very easy to learn and lots of fun."

"Its all about partner connection, lead and follow. It's not unusual for people who've never danced before to become confident dancers in about 6 weeks," says Ms Heatherington. "And their excitement and confidence in their new-found skill is infectious."

What sets Modern Jive apart is that it can be danced to virtually any music – fast, slow, Latin, contemporary, old and new. It's usually danced to Top 40 tunes, which means the music is always fresh and familiar.

So when will this stylish fun dance form be available in Toronto? "Very soon," according to Ms Heatherington.

Jive Nation Toronto kicks off Modern Jive in Toronto with 2 exclusive Modern Jive events on March 27th and 28th 2010.

The first event is Learn to Dance in a Day. This Beginners Intensive Workshop condenses weeks of modern jive training into just one 4-hour class.

In just 4 hours participants will learn:
• Several basic Modern Jive moves
• Musicality
• Fillers
• Elegant Dips and Drops
• Freestyle

Led by expert teacher Simon Borland, of Jive Nation England, this workshop will have beginner dancers confident on the dance floor in no time at all.

For more advanced dancers there's the Fast-Track Intermediate to Advanced Workshop. This challenging workshop is designed for dancers ready to step up to the next level of Modern Jive, or dancers from a different dance background keen on improving their technique or teaching Modern Jive.

"We're incredibly excited about having Modern Jive in Toronto instead of having to settle for other dance classes," says Nicky, who currently helps teach the dance at the University of Toronto Modern Jive Club. "And we are thrilled to have Simon Borland in Toronto to lead these 2 exclusive workshops. In the last 3 years over 5,000 students have become enthusiastic Modern Jive dancers through Simon's popular Central London classes."

One of the best things about attending a Modern Jive class is you don't have to come with a partner. That makes it perfect for single people who may want to dance but don't have anyone to go with. "Everyone gets rotated during class, so there's no need to have a partner," says Nicky. "It's a fabulous way to stay fit and make friends while you learn a new skill. And since we're a very social, inclusive and friendly bunch you're guaranteed to meet new people and expand your social circle almost immediately."

"The Modern Jive dance market in Canada is currently underserved," says Nicky. "Our goal is to fill the gap by making this stylish, exhilarating and addictive dance available to Toronto's great dance scene."

"So, if you think you have two left feet but have always dreamed of gracing the dance floor, perhaps it's time you tried the Toronto Modern Jive dance craze. The Beginner Intensive is a perfect start."
