Infographic: How Many People Have Dropped Their Smartphones in a Toilet? And Other Interesting Facts

It happened to a good friend of mine. And it could happen to you. You're at work, minding your own business (or, more appropriately, doing your business), when all of a sudden that snazzy touch screen device you're holding slips through your fingers, falls through the air, and crashes into a pool that wasn't made for swimming. Just like that, your cell phone is gone – along with every piece of data you have inside of it. Believe it or not, 19% of smartphone users who have lost or damaged their smartphones have been in this situation. Meanwhile, 15% of smartphone users blame it on their kids. Another 11% claim they left it at a restaurant, while 9% say they lost it in a taxi. This data comes from Plaxo, a subsidiary of Comcast CMCSA that aims to unify “all your contact info in a single, smart address book,” and MarketTools, an online market research firm. (See the infographic below.) On the upside, 49% of smartphone owners have “increased reliance upon tools/apps” that provide them with remote access to contacts and address book details. Google GOOG Docs have no doubt helped in this area, as have the many other cloud services that have popped up. Take a look at the infographic for more: Follow me @LouisBedigian
