The CNBC anchor and Smile Ambassador is entering the next chapter in her life.
That chapter is Nothing But Gold, a new multimedia production company that Nicole Lapin launched with one simple goal in mind: to create “accessible financial content across various platforms.”
“Reporting during what seems to be another leg down in the financial crisis made me realize that a lot of it is complicated, confusing and scary for most people,” Lapin wrote on her blog. “Lots of you wrote in to me, confided in me and told me you saw a void in candid, plain-English reporting. I agree. There isn't a bridge between Wall Street and Main Street during this critical time in our economic history. I am going to fill that void.”
Lapin says that in the 10+ years she's been on the air, “This is the most exciting chapter yet.”
“As part of my production company I am going [to] develop and host television shows, and create digital and print content for major media outlets,” she revealed. “I am also working on publishing a book entitled, ‘Decoding The Wall Street Journal,' the first in my book series that tackles and decodes intimidating money-related topics.”
That, however, is just the tip of the iceberg. “I am also preparing to launch a suite of online personal finance and investment tools for a generation consistently overwhelmed by such topics, affectionately titled ‘Rich Bitch,'” Lapin said.
“And wait — there's more!” she continued. “I am also going to spend a ton of time on a charity I launched called ‘Lost Girls,' which offers gently-worn workplace attire and career advice to young women looking for jobs. The foundation will give a much-needed hand to the rapidly-increasing population of young, well-educated women looking to find work during the tightest job market in decades.”
Lapin said that she had to act on the “sense of urgency” that she feels to “demystify the intricacies of Wall Street and personal finance for everywoman.”
“Helping her, him and hopefully you navigate a time when the economy is in such turmoil will be the driving force for all of my endeavors,” she said. “I hope you come along for the journey.”
This afternoon, Lapin updated her blog with her definition for “Nothing But Gold.”
“I've been getting a lot of questions about my inspiration for the name of my production company, Nothing But Gold,” she wrote. “So here's my definition:
“Nothing But Gold \NUH-thing but g-OLD, noun;
“1. A multimedia production company focused on creating accessible financial content across various platforms. Will develop and host television shows, and create digital and print content for major media outlets. Derives from the following quote from Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy:
“‘These joys were so trifling as to be as imperceptible as grains of gold among the sand, and in moments of depression she saw nothing but the sand; yet there were brighter moments when she felt nothing but joy, saw nothing but the gold.'”
Lapin also posted this video of her recent appearance on MSNBC's "Jansing & Co,” in which she discusses U.S. jobless claims and Facebook's projected revenue.
