Euro Falls After Reports Surface That Greece Wants To Amend European Union Aid Deal Struck Last Month (ULE)

The euro fell in trading today after reports surfaced in the media that Greece wants to amend the aid deal struck at the European Union summit last month to support the debt laden country. The euro fell 0.6% to 1.3403 against the U.S. dollar and a full percentage point to 125.76 against the Japanese yen.

On Monday, the ProShares Ultra Euro (ETF) (NYSE: ULE) closed 1.41% lower at $26.60 in trading. Lutz Karpowitz, a currency strategist at Commerzbank in Frankfurt, said, “There's speculation that the financial situation in Greece will become increasingly difficult. Negative news about Greece will continue to pressure the euro."
