YouTube Rolls Out Dedicated Tab For Shorts To Make It Easy For Viewers To Filter Content

Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL YouTube has rolled out separate tabs for Shorts, live streams, and long-form videos on all channel pages.

What Happened: On Thursday, YouTube said that on the basis of "feedback", it was "beginning to roll out separate tabs for Shorts, live streams, and long-form videos on all channel pages."

As a result, Shorts won't appear in the same tab as videos on channel pages.

This will make it "easier for viewers to discover the kinds of content they’re most interested in when exploring a creator’s channel page," said YouTube.

The redesign splits video content into three different tabs on all channel page:

Shorts tab: Users will only see Shorts. YouTube said, "When you are watching Shorts in the Shorts feed and navigate to a creator’s channel from the feed, you will be directed right to this new tab to keep enjoying Shorts."

Live tab: Users will find all streams here including those that are active, scheduled, or archived.
Videos tab: Here, all long-form content can be found.

Why It’s Important: YouTube has increased its commitment to Shorts, its competitor to TikTok.

The latest redesign comes close on the heels of another change the video streaming platform made last month when it began rolling out YouTube handles in the @username format. With the use of these usernames, creators can identify their channels and engage with their followers on YouTube Shorts, channel pages, video descriptions, comments and elsewhere.
