Attention Gamers! First 8K Ultrawide Gaming Monitor May Come Sooner Than You Think

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd SSNLF is gearing up to release the first 8K ultrawide gaming monitor compatible with Advanced Micro Devices Inc. AMD Radeon RX 7900 GPUs

What Happened: With AMD announcing two new RDNA3 gaming graphic cards that can output 8K video at high refresh rates, having compatible displays is necessary, according to Engadget.

Samsung has teased its Odyssey Neo G9, which will supposedly be the first ever 8K ultrawide gaming monitor, said the report.

The launch might not happen until CES in January, but users will need a DisplayPort 2.1-capable video card to help that screen reach its potential. In early 2023, Acer, ASUS, Dell DELL and LG LPL are also likely to introduce high-resolution DisplayPort 2.1 monitors.

Why It's Important: The South Korean tech giant's Odyssey Neo G9 will be expensive, considering previous-generation models sell for $2,200 with 5,120 x 1,440 resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. The higher cost may be due to the PC attached to the 8K panel, as users will need a CPU on top of the latest Radeons, the report noted.

Samsung's latest innovation might be more of an investment than instant gratification since it is still unclear how well 8K will perform on new AMD cards, said the report.
