Edward Snowden said "justice is blind" on Twitter in response to the disparity in the treatment of FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and Daniel Hale — a former National Security Agency intelligence analyst in prison who pleaded guilty to retaining and transmitting classified information.
Why It Matters: Snowden criticized The New York Times for "puff pieces" on Bankman-Fried in the wake of the implosion of FTX.
The former U.S. intelligence contractor shared a website urging people to "stand with Daniel Hale" while saying he was "suffering in a dungeon" for revealing that "9 out of 10 people we kill with drones are mere bystanders."
Why It Matters: In July 2021, Hale was sentenced to 45 months of prison followed by three years of supervised release for illegally obtaining classified national defense information and disclosing it to a reporter, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The New York Times interview with Bankman-Fried, published Monday, was panned by Snowden and others in the industry including ZCash (ZEC) co-founder Zooko Wilcox.
