Google Trials AI Based Chatbot For Search Engine To Counter Microsoft's Success With ChatGPT

Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL Google tested new artificial intelligence-powered chat products to integrate them into a search engine that will likely influence a future public product launch.
Google worked on a project under its cloud unit called "Atlas" to respond to the large-language chatbot ChatGPT, CNBC reports.
Google also tested a chatbot called "Apprentice Bard," where employees can ask questions and receive detailed answers similar to ChatGPT.

Apprentice Bard's answers can include recent events, a feature ChatGPT doesn't have yet.
Google tested a new search desktop design that could serve as a question-and-answer form.
The home search page offers five prompts for potential questions placed directly under the main search bar, replacing the current "I'm feeling lucky" bar.
The product tests come after a recent all-hands meeting where employees raised concerns about the company's competitive edge in AI, given the sudden popularity of Microsoft Corp MSFT backed OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Microsoft shared a new multiyear, $10 billion deal in January with OpenAI. The deal followed its previous investments in 2019 and 2021.
It extends Microsoft's ongoing collaboration across artificial intelligence supercomputing and research and commercializes the resulting advanced AI technologies.
Since 2016, Microsoft has committed to building Azure into an AI supercomputer for the world.
Price Action: GOOG shares closed higher by 1.96% at $99.87 on Tuesday.
