Norfolk Southern Joins Federal Close-Call Reporting System Amid Pressure Since Ohio Train Derailment

  • Norfolk Southern Corporation NSC has agreed to join the Federal Railroad Administration's Confidential Close Call Reporting System (C3RS), along with its several rivals.
  • With active participation in the C3RS Working Group that is part of the Department of Transportation's Railroad Safety Advisory Committee, and now being a part of the Federal Railroad Administration, Norfolk is building upon its own long-standing Close Call Experience Program.

  • Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg asked the chief executives of the seven so-called Class 1 railroads, Union Pacific Corporation UNP, Norfolk Southern, BNSF Railway, CSX Corporation CSXCanadian Pacific Railway Limited CPCanadian National Railway Company CNI and Kansas City Southern, to join the Federal Railroad Administration's close-call reporting system, WSJ reported.
