Investor and entrepreneur Mark Cuban is best known for being the owner of the National Basketball Association’s Dallas Mavericks as well as his role on “Shark Tank."
He has also been seen on the small screen and big screen over the years, something that could happen more in 2023.
What Happened: Cuban is set to play Philippe, the King of Caminelle, a fictional European nation, in a holiday movie titled “Royal Runaway.”
The movie, written and directed by Candace Cain, was set to start production in February and comes from ALG Films.
ALG Films CEO JB Yowell reached out to Cuban and pitched the entrepreneur playing a King in the movie.
“Works for me — go for it,” Cuban told Yowell.
The movie will also star sports announcer Alex Day as Philippe’s son. It is not known how large of a role Cuban will have in the movie, given the plot involved, but it could be one of the few where Cuban plays someone other than himself on the screen.
According to the plot, “King Philippe passes away and now Prince Alex is due to take over the Monarch. However, he does not want to be a King. So he flees to America and lands in New York."
The Prince winds up working at an American winery and a love story evolves with the character of Faith, played by Ashley Brinkman.
“I’d say that Mark Cuban is considered a bit of American royalty, so it’s really fun to have him playing King Philippe in my latest Holiday Film,” Cain said.

Why It’s Important: Cuban is one of the most followed people in the financial sector and has over 8.8 million followers on Twitter.
The inclusion of Cuban in the movie could help generate buzz for the film ahead of its theatrical release or for the streaming platform it is on.
On IMDb, Cuban has 34 acting credits listed with many of them like gust roles on “The Simpsons,” “The League,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Billions,” “Home Economics” and “Grace and Frankie” portraying himself.
Cuban played himself on five episodes of “Entourage” and was featured in the movie of the same name in one of his longest running acting portrayals in a series.
Cuban previously played a president in the TV movie “Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!”
A fourth quarter release date is expected for Royal Runaway, which will either be released in theaters or go straight to a network or streaming platform.
