First Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLR) plummeted 16.29 to $126.88 after late Wednesday it reported third-quarter net income of $153.3 million, or $1.79 a share, up from $99.3 million, or $1.20 a share, a year ago. Revenue for the three months ended Sept. 26 rose 38% to $480.9 million from $348.7 million a year ago. Analysts surveyed by FactSet Research had predicted the Tempe, Ariz.-based solar panels maker would post earnings of $1.71 a share on $524 million in revenue.
Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW) decreased $0.90 or 5.37% to $15.69 on 3.30 million shares after it reported a 32 percent drop in quarterly profit on Thursday, reflecting lower global recruitment advertising, but results beat expectations, aided by cost cuts. Net earnings were $32.8 million, or 27 cents per share, compared with $42.8 million, or 35 cents per share a year earlier.
Cal Dive International, Inc. (NYSE: DVR) tumbled 6% to $8.48 on 2.20 million shares after it reported a 28 percent drop in quarterly profit. For the third quarter, the company earned $32.9 million, or 35 cents a share, compared with $45.9 million, or 43 cents a share, last year. Revenue fell 23 percent to $214.6 million. Analysts, on average, expected the company to earn 38 cents a share, on revenue of $270.7 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Harsco Corporation (NYSE: HSC) plunged 4.54% to $32.19 after its quarterly profit more than halved, hurt partly by a charge and lower global steel production, and cut its full-year earnings outlook.
