Apple Inc.'s AAPL most expensive iPhone this year, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, could become the top-selling model thanks to the periscope camera that Apple is expected to add this year.
What Happened: The top-tier iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to be Apple's best-selling iPhone despite being the most expensive too, according to noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The reason is simple – Apple is expected to include a periscope camera this year on its flagship iPhone.
According to Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro Max alone is expected to account for up to 40% of iPhone 15 series shipments. It is also expected to see a 10-20% increase in shipments when compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
"It means Apple is optimistic about the selling point of the periscope, which is only available in iPhone 15 Pro Max," Kuo said.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only iPhone 15 model to sport the new periscope camera. The upcoming iPhone flagship is expected to feature a triple camera setup on the back with the new lens system.
A periscope lens system would allow Apple to achieve superior lossless zoom at levels like 5x or higher compared to a traditional system.
Beating The Economic Blues: Apple's iPhones dominated the smartphone industry's profits for a long time despite only grabbing a small market share in terms of shipments.
However, iPhones seem to be gaining even on that front – a new report shows that the top ten smartphones by shipments in the first six months of 2023 are all iPhones.
In fact, the most expensive iPhone models – the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max – led the growth.
iPhone 15 Launch Date: The iPhone 15 series is expected to launch on September 12, with pre-orders expected to go live on September 18. From the USB-C port to a new titanium design and the Action Button, the iPhone 15 series promises to pack a serious punch this year.
At the same time, Apple could also hike the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max prices by $100 to $200, so its impact on sales will also be worth watching out for.
