According to a new poll, voters trust Republicans more than Democrats on issues such as immigration, crime, and the economy, NBC News reported.
The poll, conducted by Republican pollster Bill McInturff and Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt, also found smaller margins favoring Democrats on healthcare, abortion, coronavirus, and education. However, the two parties were nearly tied to protecting democracy and the middle class.
"On this survey after 20 or 30 years, Republicans dealing with the economy [versus Democrats], immigration and crime are all at their all-time highs," McInturff said.
"These are things where overall the electorate thinks Republicans are more focused and would do a better job than Democrats," he added.

The poll also reflects a deeply dissatisfied electorate with President Joe Biden, yet there are reservations about his most likely 2024 rival, former President Donald Trump. Despite these concerns, the GOP advantage in the economy is the highest recorded in more than three decades of NBC News polling.
A notable advantage for Democrats continues to be the issue of abortion. However, Republicans have advantages on topics with the widest margins, like border security and crime.
Alarmingly for Democrats, the poll found only a 2-point margin in favor of Democrats on looking out for the middle class, the lowest in the history of the poll.
"The Democrats … have held over 30 years as high as a 29-point advantage as being the party better able to deal with and handle issues of concern to the middle class," McInturff noted.
The poll, conducted from Sep. 15-19, has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
