Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Google seems to prefer iPhones over older Pixel and Samsung phones, based on the trade-in prices that Google is offering on its new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones.

What Happened: Pixel fans are unhappy over Google offering much higher trade-in prices on Apple Inc.'s AAPL older iPhones when compared to older Pixel or Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

Google is currently offering only up to $420 for the Pixel 7 Pro when upgrading to the Pixel 8 Pro and only up to $385 if you buy the Pixel 8.

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd.'s SSNLF latest flagship, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, was launched at $1,199, and will fetch only $650 on both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. This is a nearly 46% decline in value in just six months since launch.

On the other hand, iPhones are holding up much better in comparison – Google is offering the highest trade-in values on older iPhones, with the iPhone 14 Pro Max fetching as much as $750.

For context, it was launched at $1,099, $100 less than the Galaxy S23 Ultra, yet Google is offering $100 more for trade-ins.

What's worse is that the five-year-old iPhone XR fetches the same discount as the one-year-old Pixel 7.

Here's how much Google is offering for trade-ins on older iPhones, Pixel, and Samsung phones:

PhonePixel 8Pixel 8 Pro
iPhone 14 Pro Max$750$750
iPhone 14 Pro$620$620
iPhone 14$550$550
Galaxy S23 Ultra$650$650
Galaxy S23$550$550
Pixel 7 Pro$385$420
Pixel 7$325$325
iPhone 13 Pro Max$650$650
iPhone 13$500$500
Galaxy S22 Ultra$500$500
Galaxy S22$400$400
Pixel 6 Pro$385$400
Pixel 6$325$325
iPhone XR$325$325

Fans Are Angry: Pixel fans on social media are angry, especially since Pixel phones have lower trade-in values when compared to iPhones.

"It’s pretty insulting. My hype just crashed and burned," said one user on Reddit.

"iPhone XR is worth about the same as my Pixel 7, lol. 5 year old phone vs Google’s 1 year old phone," said another user.

However, it could just be Google offering higher trade-in values for iPhones to lure them out of Apple's ecosystem. Whether that will be enough motivation or not remains to be seen.
