Super Rare Diamond Scores Almost $44M At Auction — Is Now The Time To Invest In Diamonds?

Diamonds are a girl's best friend, right? For years, diamonds have stood for enduring beauty, wealth and a symbol of love and commitment, often featured in ceremonial and celebratory contexts like engagements and anniversaries.

While all of that's true, there's something else to remember — diamonds also make for a great investment. Take for example a super rare diamond that fetched roughly $44 million at a recent auction.

You may never invest in a multi-million dollar diamond, but that doesn't mean you have to pass by this opportunity altogether. Investors own just one percent of the diamond market, meaning there's plenty of time to get in on the action.

Don’t Miss:

Diamond Standard has revolutionized the diamond market by introducing standardized Diamond Standard coins and bars, each embedded with diamonds and equal in value to others minted concurrently. This innovation has not only made diamonds fungible, akin to trading gold or stocks, but also paves the way for their potential inclusion in commodity indices.

The Bleu Royal Diamond

A blue diamond of exceptional rarity, known as the Bleu Royal, fetched almost $44 million at a Geneva auction. This sale by Christie’s places the 17.61-carat stone, the largest internally flawless fancy vivid blue diamond ever auctioned, among the priciest diamonds ever sold at auction.

The intense bidding concluded in seven minutes with a private collector securing the gem for $43.8 million, taxes and commission included.

Christie’s Geneva’s head of jewelry, Max Fawcett, expressed satisfaction with the sale, noting the diamond’s record-breaking price of nearly $2.5 million per carat and its status as the highest-priced jewelry sold in 2023 across any auction house.

The pear-shaped diamond, which was set in a ring and had been held privately for many years, made its auction debut to incredible acclaim and excitement as one of the top 10 most expensive jewelry items ever auctioned.

Diamond investing is still in its infancy, and sales like this go a long way in showing that there's interest in the market as a whole.
