For most of the last decade, Apple AAPL was the only major tech company with hundreds of retail outlets worldwide. That changed after Microsoft MSFT started opening a series of retail outlets nationwide. Now the Windows maker -- along with Apple rival Samsung SSNLF -- is opening stores-within-stores at numerous Best Buy BBY locations. Last week Microsoft opened its first store in Metro Detroit and another in Indianapolis.
