October Was Another Strong Month For ETFs (EEM, SPY, VWO)
October was another solid month for the ETF industry as assets under management rose to $707 billion from $705 billion in September, according to the National Stock Exchange.
Inflows to emerging markets ETFs were robust as the Vanguard MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (NYSE: VWO) saw inflows of $2.2 billion in October. The iShares MSCI Emerging Markets (NYSE: EEM) was close behind at $1.76 billion in new inflows.
U.S. equity ETF actually saw net outflows of $5 billion, led by the SPDRs (NYSE: SPY), which tracks the S&P 500. SPY now has $67 billion in assets compared with $79 billion last year.
iShares and State Street (NYSE: STT) saw slight declines in assets while Vanguard and PowerShares small increases.
