Tesla Cybertruck The New Celebrity Fashion Accessory? Steve Aoki, Big Sean Latest To Own EV

Zinger Key Points
  • Tesla has over one million reservations for the Cybertruck.
  • Several celebrities have become owners of Cybertruck and could be providing a boost to Tesla.

Tesla began deliveries of the highly anticipated Cybertruck electric pickup truck in November 2023.

Since the first vehicles became available, the Cybertruck has quickly become a must-have for many celebrities.

What Happened: First unveiled by Tesla in 2019, the Cybertruck was one of the most anticipated vehicle launches of all time with over one million reservations.

Over the past five months, many celebrities have been spotted posing with their Cybertruck or getting out of the vehicle, with posts often going viral and adding to the legend of the Tesla vehicle.

The latest celebrities to join the Cybertruck ownership club are musicians Big Sean and Steve Aoki.

Photos of Big Sean posing with his Cybertruck were shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Replying to a post of the photo of Big Sean with his Cybertruck, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said "cool."

Steve Aoki also took ownership of a Cybertruck and shared a video on his social media highlighting some of the key features.

"I just got a Cybertruck, look at this beaut," Aoki said.

Aoki said the vehicle he owns is a Foundation Series Cyberbeast.

"It's amazing."

Aoki highlighted the windshield wiper of the Cybertruck, saying it was likely the biggest windshield wiper ever.

"I like the Knight Rider vibe."

Aoki also showed off the inside of the Cybertruck and highlighted the feel.

"It's like you're in a tank man, this feels like you're driving a tank."

Aoki's video was shared by Tesla influencer Sawyer Merritt and by Musk himself on X. Aoki made the video his pinned post with a message of appreciation.

"Big shoutout to Elon Musk for this insane truck! And the biggest thank you to the mighty Utah Tesla team for helping make it happen. Big love to them!"

Why It's Important: Big Sean has 13.7 million followers on X and 17 million followers on Instagram. Aoki counts 8 million followers on X and 12 million followers on Instagram.

The musicians add to the growing list of celebrities who have taken ownership of the Cybertruck. As the Teslaconomics X account points out, celebrities don't get discounts on the vehicle. Musk highlighted this fact earlier on as well.

"Well, they clearly have great taste!" Musk said. The CEO added the comment that there were no discounts or endorsements for the celebrities taking ownership of the Cybertruck.

One of the first celebrities to take ownership of a Cybertruck was Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who highlighted the vehicle and showed off videos. Ohanian's wife and tennis legend Serena Williams was also seen riding around in the Cybertruck.

Jay-Z and Beyonce were spotted personalizing their Cybertruck with a black matte wrap previously, which caught the attention of Musk.

Other celebrities who are reported Cybertruck owners include Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Pharrell Williams, Justin Bieber and Jay Leno.

Tesla is known for spending minimally on advertising, despite protests from some top investors. Having celebrities own Cybertrucks and make their videos highlighting the vehicle and key features could provide a level of free marketing for Tesla and increase the demand for the truck.
