China Slams Fatal Bombing In Pakistan That Killed 5 Chinese Nationals, But Reaffirms 'Ironclad' Brotherhood With Islamabad

In the wake of a deadly suicide bombing in Pakistan that resulted in the death of five Chinese nationals, Beijing has expressed strong condemnation. However, China has also affirmed its commitment to persist with its projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, specifically the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, despite the attack.

A suicide bomber targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday. The attack resulted in the death of six individuals, including five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver. The engineers were involved in a dam project in the region.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denounced the attack and reiterated its stance against all forms of terrorism, South China Morning Post reported on Wednesday. The Ministry also expressed its support for Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism and pledged to enhance cooperation with Islamabad to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan.

"China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners and ‘ironclad' brothers, and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has made significant contributions to Pakistan's economic and social development," the Chinese foreign ministry said.

Jiang Zaidong, the Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, visited the dam site on Wednesday to offer condolences and instructed the project team to enhance security measures. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also denounced the attack and vowed to initiate an investigation.

This incident marks the third major attack on Chinese interests in Pakistan within a week, with previous attacks targeting a naval airbase and a strategic port. Despite these attacks, China remains steadfast in its commitment to its Belt and Road Initiative projects in Pakistan.
