Bernie Sanders Says Workers Are Clocking Longer Hours For Lower Wages, Advocates 32-Hour Workweek Again: 'Forced To Miss Their Kid's Birthday Parties And Little League Games'

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has reiterated his support for a 32-hour workweek, arguing that it is not a radical concept.

What Happened: On Thursday, Sanders took to X, formerly Twitter, to express his views on the current state of the American workforce. He highlighted the struggles of workers who are forced to work longer hours for lower wages, often missing out on family events and still struggling to afford basic necessities.

Sanders said, “Too many workers are working longer hours for lower wages.” He added, “Too many workers are forced to miss their kid’s birthday parties and Little League Games.”

He concluded his tweet by stating, “So, no. A 32-hour workweek is NOT a radical idea.”

Why It Matters: This tweet comes in the wake of Sanders’ recent push for a four-day, 32-hour workweek standard in the United States, without any pay reduction. He has been vocal about this issue, stating in a previous social media post that the time for such a change is “long overdue”.

However, not everyone agrees with Sanders’ proposal. “Shark Tank” fame Kevin O’Leary, for instance, has publicly stated that Sanders’ 32-hour workweek idea is “dead on arrival”.

Despite the opposition, Sanders continues to advocate for this change, emphasizing the need to improve the quality of life for American workers.
