What's The Cost Of Training Generative AI With Videos? Adobe Doles Out Money For Acquiring Dataset

Zinger Key Points
  • Adobe collects videos for AI text-to-video tech, competing with OpenAI's Sora.
  • Offering $120 for video submissions, Adobe advances generative AI in creative software.

Adobe Inc ADBE is actively gathering videos to fuel the development of its artificial intelligence text-to-video generator. This move aims to keep pace with rivals like OpenAI, which recently showcased a comparable technology.

To enrich its AI training dataset, Adobe is reaching out to its community of photographers and artists, offering them $120 to submit footage showcasing a range of human activities and emotions, from walking and expressing joy to demonstrating anger.

This initiative underscores Adobe’s commitment to integrating generative AI capabilities across its suite of creative tools, including popular software like Photoshop and Illustrator, Bloomberg reports

The company has introduced generative AI functionalities that transform text into images and illustrations, witnessing billions of uses.

Despite these advancements, the unveiling of OpenAI’s video-generation model, Sora, has reignited concerns about Adobe’s position in the face of emerging technologies.

Adobe has acknowledged its efforts in video generation and plans to unveil more details later in the year.

The call for content specifically seeks over 100 brief clips that capture a variety of actions, emotions, and interactions with objects, stressing the importance of avoiding copyrighted or inappropriate content.

Compensation for these submissions averages around $2.62 per minute of video, potentially reaching $7.25 per minute.

Earlier in March, at the Game Developers Conference, Adobe showcased its leadership in weaving generative AI into 3D design, unveiling two innovative additions to its Substance 3D design software.

These features empower 3D artists to craft assets from textual descriptions efficiently. The Substance 3D Sampler’s “Text to Texture” function enables the creation of realistic or artistic textures, such as scales or fabrics, directly from text inputs, streamlining the texture application process for 3D models.

Additionally, Adobe introduced the “Generative Background” feature in Substance 3D Stager. This feature allows for the generation of background visuals for 3D environments via text prompts, leveraging 2D imaging technology to enhance scenes and objects with a lifelike depth.

Adobe stock gained over 31% in the last 12 months. Investors can gain exposure to the stock via Invesco Next Gen Media And Gaming ETF GGME and Invesco Nasdaq Internet ETF PNQI.

Price Action: ADBE shares traded lower by 0.35% at $485.50 premarket on the last check Thursday.
