Tesla CEO Elon Musk Believes Not Just Cars, All Modes Of Transport Will Be Electric In Future, With This Exception

Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday that all transportation will be powered by electricity in the future, except rockets.

What Happened: Musk expressed his dream for an all-electric future in response to a video of an electric boat shared on X.

Musk’s Tesla already makes only electric cars. The company started operations of a battery electric shuttle train in Berlin to take employees from Erkner railway station in Brandenburg to its sole European gigafactory earlier this month.

However, earlier this week, Musk agreed with a Tesla employee that electric trains are not the “future of transit” unlike supersonic passenger gets, hyperloop, flying taxis, or self-driving cars. Electric trains are the options of the present and have existed for a long time, the employee noted.

Why It Matters: Tesla is currently the world’s largest BEV seller. In the last quarter, Tesla delivered 443,956 battery-electric vehicles. In comparison, Chinese EV giant BYD Co Ltd., backed by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, sold only 426,039 in the three months from April to June.

However, earlier this week, Musk warned against vilifying the oil and gas industry in an interview with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

"I don’t think we should vilify the oil and gas industry and the people that have worked very hard in those industries to provide the necessary energy to support the economy,” the billionaire said.

The billionaire suggested there is leeway for the oil and gas industry to co-exist with new-energy ventures as the planet Earth slowly and steadily transitions to sustainable energy.

"So it’s not like the house is on fire immediately," the Tesla CEO said about the risk of climate change, adding, "It’s probably better to move there faster than slower. But like without vilifying the oil and gas industry and without causing hardship in the short term.”
