Could Elon Musk Become The World's First Trillionaire? Tesla's Success Could Make It Happen As Early As...

Zinger Key Points
  • A new report predicts Elon Musk will become a future trillionaire.
  • While Musk may be first to the prestigious title, he will be joined by others in future years.

Billionaire Elon Musk is the world's richest person and also an influential figure across several business segments thanks to his leadership at companies like Tesla Inc TSLA, X, xAI, SpaceX, Neuralink and The Boring Company.

Musk could become a trillionaire in the future, thanks in large part to one of the above companies.

What Happened: Musk’s wealth is a dream for most and a challenge for others to match.

Currently listed with a wealth of $241 billion, Musk has a near $50-billion lead on second place Jeff Bezos ($198 billion) according to valuation rankings from Bloomberg.

A new study from Informa Connect Academy found that Musk's wealth grows at an average annual growth rate of 109.9%. While several other billionaires have higher growth rates like Gautam Adani (+122.9%) and Jensen Huang (+111.9%), Musk is predicted to become the world's first trillionaire.

The study projects Musk will reach the wealth milestone by 2027, assuming Tesla maintains its impressive annual growth rate of 173.3%.

Musk's wealth is highly concentrated from stakes of around 13% and 42% in Tesla and SpaceX respectively, with Tesla being the more liquid wealth provider with shares publicly traded, often changing Musk's wealth levels on the daily.

Tesla, which was previously valued at $1 trillion, is expected to return to the limited club of companies worth $1 trillion or more in 2025.

What's Next: Informa Connect Academy predicts that Musk will be followed by others in the trillionaire race, with Adani and Huang expected to join in 2028.

Two of the largest gainers in 2024 for wealth have been Huang, gaining $49.6 billion and Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg gaining $51.4 billion. Musk, on the other hand, has only gained $11.7 billion in 2024. This ranks sixth among the top 10 richest people.

Musk's wealth has faced wide swings previously. In 2022, Musk saw his wealth fall by more than $180 billion setting a new Guinness World Record, with Tesla stock falling over 60% for the year. The high volatility of Musk-linked companies could cause his path to trillionaire status to be faster or slower than the report predicts.

Musk's rival Bezos isn't predicted to become a trillionaire until 2036, with his average annual wealth growing at only 15.3%. While Zuckerberg has the top wealth gain this year, his 35.8% average annual rate is also lower than many top billionaires. Zuckerberg is predicted to become a trillionaire in 2030.

Conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway recently joined the $1 trillion market capitalization club and the study predicts that Tesla, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing TSM, Eli Lilly LLY and Broadcom AVGO could all join the club in 2025. Eli Lilly came on top in a Benzinga reader poll of which company would top $1 trillion next, after Berkshire Hathaway.

Other future $1 trillion companies are expected to be Novo Nordisk in 2026 and the likes of Exxon Mobil, ASML, and Advance Micro Devices in 2028.
