Jake Paul, Mike Tyson, Simone Biles And More: The Most-Searched Athletes On Google In 2024

When it comes to the world of sports, top searches on Google in 2024 for athletes centered on boxing and the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Here are the year’s top 10 most-searched athletes on Google, the search engine owned by Alphabet Inc GOOGGOOGL:

As Benzinga previously reported, the 2024 Summer Olympics and several soccer and cricket tournaments were top searches in 2024.

Topping the list was Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who won a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Khelif became the subject of cyberbullying and intense discussion on social media about gender.

Boxers Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, who recently squared off in a live Netflix Inc NFLX special, each ranked in the top 10 for the year as well, showing the strength in searches for the sport of boxing.

Simone Biles was another Olympic athlete among the most-searched. Comcast Corporation CMCSA provided live Olympics coverage across broadcast television, cable and streaming.

Outside of boxing and the Olympics, soccer was well represented. Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Rodri all made the list. Cricket also saw two athletes (Pandya, Singh) on this year's list.

Top Searched Teams: Google also provided a list of the most-searched sports teams globally for the year. Here is the list:

The Dodgers and the Yankees topped the list of most-searched teams after their meeting in this year’s World Series. The Dodgers won the series 7-6.

MLB team, the New York Mets, who just signed prized free agent Juan Soto, ranked sixth on the list.

On sportsbook, DraftKings Inc DKNG, the Dodgers, Mets and Yankees are the first, third and fourth top favorites to win the 2025 World Series with odds of +380, +850 and +950 respectively.

Soccer teams Inter Miami CF, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and the Argentina national football team ranked in the top 10, with both Miami and Argentina of course linked thanks to the services of global superstar Lionel Messi. Inter Miami, which is Messi’s current club team, is the only returning sports team from last year’s global top 10 search list.

The NBA was well represented with the Celtics, Mavericks and Timberwolves among the top 10 most-searched teams.

The Celtics are the current favorites to win the 2025 NBA Championship at odds of +270 after winning last year's championship. The Mavericks (+1,000) and Timberwolves (+2,500) rank fourth and tenth in the betting odds at DraftKings respectively.
