Rivian Automotive Inc RIVN launched sales of its Rivian Commercial Van to fleet purchasers nationwide.
This electric van serves as the base model for Amazon.com Inc AMZN customized delivery vans (EDV). It’s quipped with automatic emergency braking, collision alerts, and 360-degree visibility.
Amazon, which backs Rivian, agreed in 2019 to buy 100,000 vans from the company by 2030.
The original 2019 agreement restricted Rivian from selling its vans to other companies until four years after the first delivery. By 2023, Rivian modified the deal, removed the exclusivity clause and began selling the vans to other customers.

After the exclusivity deal with Amazon, Rivian conducted trials of its commercial vans with several major U.S. fleets. These tests have allowed the company to expand sales to a broader market.
Rivian offers the commercial van in two versions, the 500 and 700. The payload capacity reaches 2,663 pounds with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of up to 9,500 lbs.
The 500 model boasts a longer range, starting at $83,000. The 700 variant provides more cargo space, with a starting price of $87,000.
“Amazon currently has more than 20,000 in its fleet and delivered over a billion packages from its Electric Delivery Vans in 2024 alone,” said Senior Director, Business Development, Tom Solomon.
The vans come with Rivian’s custom software platform, managing functions such as unlocking, door control, charging, and acceleration. This system enhances the overall user experience by increasing safety, lowering operational expenses, and improving productivity for fleet operators.
Price Action: Rivian shares are trading higher by 0.88% at $12.59 in premarket at the last check Monday.
