World's Third Largest Retailer and Global 100 Company Standardizes Security and Protects Corporate Data With Fortinet Solutions

Share:

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - August 17, 2009) - Fortinet® -- a market-leading network
security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM)
solutions -- today announced that Tesco Hindustan Service Center (HSC), the
global services arm of Tesco PLC, the world's third largest retailer and a
Fortune Global 100 company, has deployed Fortinet's enterprise-class
multi-threat security, management and analysis systems to standardize its
global security practices and protect its information technology (IT) and
business services facility in India. Tesco HSC hosts and protects Tesco's
corporate data for its worldwide operations and provides business
information services to more than 3,200 Tesco stores in 12 countries,
including the United States, Japan, China, Ireland, Czech Republic,
Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand.

Tesco HSC's previous security systems, which consisted of firewall and
antivirus software deployed on numerous servers and desktops, came from a
range of vendors, reflecting the years of evolution of its network. "The
complexity of managing these multiple point products created a strain on IT
resources and a risk to the security of our worldwide corporate data," Mr.
Sridhar Rathnam, director IT Services for Tesco HSC.

According to Patrice Perche, vice president of EMEA & SEA sales for
Fortinet, "Effective enterprise network security is not just about
comprehensiveness, but also integration of functionality, management and
analysis -- all of which are critical in helping secure a distributed
network against a myriad of potential attacks and understand and analyze
security activity. Tesco HSC is realizing the advantages of a truly
integrated security platform and choosing Fortinet's market-leading
products over competitive offerings."

When Tesco HSC was assigned responsibility for the network security of
Tesco's offices and networks worldwide, the technical team in India
reviewed their existing network security systems and launched an evaluation
of integrated security solutions from Check Point, Cisco and Fortinet.
Tesco HSC ultimately selected, purchased and deployed an integrated
enterprise-class security platform from Fortinet when they found that
Fortinet's FortiGate® systems provided the required comprehensive
security to protect its network from an array of threats.

With the help of system integrator Wipro Infotech, Tesco HSC is using
Fortinet's FortiGate-1000 and FortiGate-500 enterprise-class network
security appliances for firewall, intrusion prevention (IPS), antivirus,
anti-spam and Web content filtering security services to protect the
corporation's and the division's sensitive data. The deployment also
includes three FortiAnalyzerT appliances, which log and analyze security
event data, and one FortiManagerT appliance, Fortinet's central
management system, at Tesco HSC's facility in Bangalore, India.

"One particular challenge that we had to address as the hub of Tesco's
network security operations worldwide was that we needed our security,
monitoring and management systems to be tightly integrated, so that we
could easily configure our security systems remotely and also drill-down
for more details about security incidents when they occur. The other
vendors that we evaluated either did not have the range of security and
management features that we wanted, or they lacked the tight integration
between their products. Integration is important because we must have
accurate, timely and detailed feedback, and also possess the capability to
rapidly apply changes to the configurations of remote systems to respond to
incidents," said Mr. Rathnam.

Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that
integrate essential security applications such as antivirus, firewall, VPN,
intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping.
FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's
FortiGuard® Network, which helps protect against damaging, content-based
threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions,
other unwanted network traffic and more -- around the clock and around the
world. FortiGate systems can be centrally managed by Fortinet's
FortiManager appliances which minimize the administrative effort required
to deploy, configure, monitor and maintain the full range of network
protection services provided by Fortinet products. FortiAnalyzer systems
are purpose built appliances that provide valuable intelligence and
simplify and centralize the collection and analysis of log and event data
from Fortinet's FortiGate security appliances, delivering highly relevant
network reports, valuable intelligence on network usage and assistance with
meeting regulatory compliance.
