ZirMed(R) Pursues Early Adoption Schedule for HIPAA 5010/ICD-10 Standards
LOUISVILLE, KY--(Marketwire - August 18, 2009) - ZirMed®, a leading national provider of
revenue cycle management solutions for healthcare providers, today
announced it is on target with its commitment to be in compliance with new
federal HIPAA 5010 and ICD-10 rules months before their respective mandated
implementation dates. As part of that commitment, ZirMed intends to begin
accepting 5010 test files from interested healthcare practice customers and
technology vendors in Q1 of 2010.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has established a
compliance date for HIPAA Version 5010 electronic transaction standards of
January 1, 2012. The ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases,
Tenth Revision) code set rule carries a mandatory compliance date of
October 1, 2013.
"From the outset, ZirMed has pledged to help its customers through every
step of satisfying the HIPAA Version 5010 electronic transaction rollout,
as well as the ICD-10 final rule mandate," said Doug Fielding, ZirMed's
Chief Information Officer. "Consistent with the adoption of NPI and the
initial HIPAA standards, we are ahead of the industry in implementing these
new rules and requirements. Our test program for early adopters, to begin
in early 2010 -- nearly two years ahead of the first compliance date -- is
a sign of our aggressive stance and commitment to our customers and
partners."
ZirMed completed its Version 5010 analytics phase earlier this summer and
is currently in the midst of full development of migration and
implementation solutions for its Web-based Revenue Cycle Management tools.
The company has also begun its discovery phase for ICD-10 and is
benchmarking its work for both standards by participating in industry
initiatives through organizations such as X12 and WEDI. To assist
customers in understanding and coping with HIPAA 5010 and ICD-10, ZirMed is
currently creating training webinars, and will soon debut an online
community on both topics.
ZirMed has planned a phased migration to the new 5010 electronic
transaction standards; during the migration period, the company's platform
will accept both the current Version 4010A and future Version 5010
transactions. It anticipates starting its migration of early adopters in
June of next year, roughly six months ahead of the announced dates from the
final rule HHS Guidance/compliance timeframe.
Said Fielding, "Our flexible, Web-based Revenue Cycle Management platform,
combined with our resolve to work with each customer as needed -- even on
an individual basis -- to make compliance as painless as possible, puts us
at the forefront of the clearinghouse industry. We welcome questions from
our customers and partners at any time, and look forward to meeting our
milestones in 2010 and beyond."
