United Continental posted a quarterly net profit of $28 million, or $0.07 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $140 million, or $0.37 per share. Excluding non-recurring items, United Continental's adjusted earnings came in at $1.20 per share.
Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:
LUV) shares gained 7.08% to touch a new 52-week high of $44.79 after the company reported upbeat fourth-quarter results.
City National Corporation (NYSE:
CYN) shares climbed 17.86% to reach a new 52-week high of $87.89 after the company agreed to sell itself to
Royal Bank of Canada (NYSE:
RY) for $5.4 billion, or $93.80 per share.
