Sling TV Expands To Android TV, Adds ESPN Deportes To 'Deportes Extra' Package

Sling TV, a subsidiary of DISH Network Corp DISH, announced today that its app is now available for Android TV platforms. The app announcement includes a promo for the Nexus Player; new subscribers can get the set-top box at half price if they pre-pay for three months of the Sling TV service.

"Android TV is a growing platform," Roger Lynch, CEO of Sling TV, told Benzinga. "Obviously we want to be where our customers are. We think the platform is going to see a lot of growth."

In addition to Android TV, Sling TV is available on Android smartphones and tablets, as well as iOS devices, Macs, Windows PCs, Fire TV (both the set-top box and the HDMI stick), Xbox One and Roku. Sling TV also announced that ESPN Deportes has joined the "Deportes Extra" roster.

Available for $5 per month to subscribers of the "Best of Live TV" core package, soccer lovers can watch:

• UEFA Champions League
• UEFA Super Cup
• UEFA Europa League
• La Liga's Copa del Rey Final
• Supercopa
• European FIFA World Cup qualifying matches
• 2016 UEFA European Championship

MLB, NBA, College Football Playoffs, Monday Night Football and NFL Wildcard will also be available for fans of domestic pro sports.

New Content

With regard to new channel additions, Lynch said that the rollout is going to continue for the "foreseeable future."

"We'll have more content than we do now," he said.

"And you'll also see more devices that we'll launch. I'd expect it to continue throughout this year." As far as original programming is concerned, Sling TV does not currently have any plans to follow the lead of Hulu, Netflix, Inc. NFLX and Amazon Prime by developing its own TV series.

"I don't think it's something we need," said Lynch.
