One Man's Journey Around The World Using Only Bitcoin

Felix Weis, a 28-year-old computer programmer from Luxembourg, is spreading the word about bitcoin around the world. Weis has put his life on pause in order to travel the world using only bitcoin in hopes of spurring on adoption and giving everyday people a chance to interact with the cryptocurrency.

Weis' travels have already taken him to 14 different countries, and he plans to visit an additional seven during the course of his trip.

Not Just For Geeks

Weis says he is ok with the fact that most average people have never heard of or have no experience with bitcoin. The object of his trip is to reach everyday people, not just the tech-savvy crowd that has already adopted bitcoin.

He strongly believes in bitcoin's ability to completely overhaul the current financial system and hopes to convince others of its benefits as well.

The Rules

Weis has developed a strict set of rules to ensure that the trip is fully funded by bitcoin. First, he changed all of his money into bitcoins and cut up his credit cards. All of his needs throughout the trip, from transportation to food, must be purchased using the cryptocurrency.

Weis says he does allow himself to use small amounts of local currencies, but only if he is able to exchange it for bitcoins with a local resident. He has been documenting the experience by taking photos with people after they've made their first bitcoin transaction.

The Power Of Bitcoin

Stories like this demonstrate the enthusiasm behind the bitcoin community. While critics say the cryptocurrency will never gain mainstream approval, many believe that the tireless support and passion that bitcoin's supporters display will be enough to change the public's perception of the currency help it gain traction.
