New Contract for Thermo Fisher - Analyst Blog

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (TMO) recently received a new contract from the consortium of U.S. National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Environmental Protection Agency. Thermo Fisher has been selected as the National Children’s Study (NCS) biological and environmental sample repository partner in the contract. Financial terms of the contract have not been disclosed.
 
The NCS study is a popular study in the United States that examines the effects of environmental influences on the health and development of 100,000 children across the nation. Children are examined right before their birth until they become 21 years old. The contract was actually awarded to the Thermo Fisher BioServices segment. 

Thermo Fisher will maintain a biorepository for storage and disbursement of patient specimens and environmental samples during the course of the study. Thermo Fisher BioServices IN-TRAK inventory management system will interface with the NCS information management system to give researchers online access to stored samples. A team of experts will monitor specimen integrity over time.

Thermo Fisher is a scientific instrument maker. The company was formed through the merger of Thermo Electron Corporation with Fisher Scientific International Inc. in Nov 2006. Thermo Fisher Scientific serves its customers through two principal brands, Thermo Scientific and Fisher Scientific.

Thermo Fisher BioServices has more than 23 years of experience in biological repository services and cold chain logistics. The division manages high value biological specimens, cell-based therapeutics, vaccines and tissues. Presently, it manages more than 170 million samples globally, with more than 30 governments and 300 commercial customers across the globe.
