How to Use the OptionsHouse Hot List Trading Tool

The Hot List scans OptionsHouse accounts for unusual trading activity, relative to open interest. All U.S. equity options are included in the scan. However, it does filter out the larger stocks and ETFs that predictably trade in heavy volume each day, giving you a more simplified list.

The OptionsHouse Hot List is located within the tabs on the right hand side of the OptionsHouse platform, and is available to all customers.

“Basic trading reality is that volume creates liquidity, and liquidity equals opportunity for traders,” said Steve Claussen, chief investment strategist at OptionsHouse in this how-to video below. “Unusual activity in the Hot List may indicate future movement of that stock.”

How Does the OptionsHouse Hot List Work?

The OptionsHouse Hot List

  • Scans for heavy option volume
  • Ranks the symbols
  • Presents you with a list of 35 choices. This is based on the average daily and weekly volume as well as the open interest in each symbol.
  • Displays the results. These are sortable by hot list ranking, total volume, name, and price move.

All stock names in the Hot List are clickable so customers can easily access the options chain and begin trading.

The “What’s Hot” list can also be found on the video section of our website. Every day Steve uses the Hot List tool to examine unusual trading activity and provide a brief explanation of why two of the notable entries are making an appearance on the OptionsHouse Hot List. While they are not recommendations, these videos may provide some insight for investors looking to better-utilize this tool in his or her account.
