Canadian Solar's New Farm in Italy - Analyst Blog

Canadian Solar Inc. (CSIQ) announced the completion and commissioning of a solar farm in Italy.

The 1 megawatt (MW) SOLARTA installation consists of 4,000 high-performance Canadian Solar CS6P 230-Watt modules capable of producing clean energy with an annual output of 1.18 megawatt hours (MWh), and 16,000 tons of reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The installation was completed by Canadian Solar's partner GE Progetti & 3i S.p.A. on a two-hectare rural area without the use of cement in an effort to be environmentally friendly and retain  the rural aesthetics.

The solar farm in Umbria in the Italian town of Narni is hooked with the local electrical network and all the energy produced will be delivered to the grid.

GE Progetti & 3i relies on Canadian Solar as a trusted partner given its high quality products. GE Progetti is an engineering company operating in renewable energies with strong focus on photovoltaic systems, providing final and complete solutions for other companies or for itself by leveraging on local agreements.

Canadian Solar is a vertically-integrated manufacturer of silicon ingots, wafers, cells, solar modules (panels) and custom-designed solar power applications. The company sells its products to customers spread across Germany, Spain, U.S., France, the Czech Republic, Italy, Korea, Canada, Japan and China. The company’s standard solar modules are sold to distributors and system integrators, and specialty solar modules and products to various manufacturers, who integrate these solar modules into their own products or sell and market them under its own product portfolio.

In our view, the prospects for Canadian Solar are greener with a geographically-diversified customer base, ongoing expansion programs, a subsidy program in China, improving operating efficiencies, rising margins, material cost savings through its vertically-integrated production structure, higher captive generation of solar cells and higher conversion efficiency.
