GE Enters into Collaboration - Analyst Blog

General Electric Co.
(GE), through its healthcare unit entered into a collaboration with the Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv, Israel and Hamilton Health Sciences Hospital in Ontario, Canada. Through this collaboration, GE Heathcare will undergo clinical trials to develop technologies that will help in the early detection of breast cancer in women.

With the rising rate of breast cancer among women, there is an increased need of technologies that can help in the early detection of the disease. GE Healthcare’s investigational Molecular Breast Imaging (MBI) system has shown encouraging results in extensive clinical work, performed in the Mayo Clinic in the US.

The two clinical studies, in Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and in Hamilton Health Sciences Hospital, will evaluate the efficacy of MBI system in the detection of the disease in patients, whose cancer cannot to be properly assessed through normal method of diagnosis, X-ray mammography and ultrasonography.

GE Healthcare, a pioneer in digital mammography, has been actively involved in the development of solutions for quick and accurate detection of the breast cancer.  Recently, it also unveiled a new SenoBright Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography (CESM) technology, which reduces uncertainty in mammography results. The new system is believed to provide accurate and faster results to the physicians even in the diagnosis of the densest part of the breast tissue.

The CESM technology was developed by GE Healthcare in collaboration with Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP).

Headquartered in United Kingdom, GE Healthcare is a $16 billion unit of General Electric. Operating in more than 100 countries worldwide, the unit is focused on developing new technologies to provide health solution to people through efficient and cost effective methods.
