MacGeneration is claiming that they've been told by sources that Apple's new MacBook Pro line, expected to be announced this Thursday, will feature higher-resolution displays, be lighter, and will sport a separate solid state drive (SSD) to hold the OS, as previously reported.
The source also claims that Apple will be adding a 3rd USB port to the 13″ MacBook Pro, an option to get a matte screen, and an Intel i3 processor, as appose to the current, aging Intel Core 2 Duo. MacGeneration also believes that Apple will give users the option to replace the SuperDrive on the new MacBook Pro's with a solid state drive, only on the 15″ and 17″ models. The source also states that the new MacBook Pro's will gain a higher-resolution display – 1440 x 900 on the 13″ model and 1680 x 1050 on the 15″ model. They also claim that the refreshed MacBook Pro's will be slightly lighter than the current line up and feature a longer battery life. Finally, regarding the 17″ MacBook Pro, MacGeneration claims 8 GB of RAM will be the standard option, and be expandable from there.
Finally, MacGeneration states that the current white, 13″ MacBook will be discontinued. We're not sure if Apple will actually follow through with this, but considering the success of the current 13″ MacBook Pro and 13″ MacBook Air, it does make sense to do so.
We'll likely have more details on Thursday, February 24th, when these refreshes are expected to take place.
