U.S. Stocks Down Broadly In Higher Trade

The major indexes stayed firmly in negative territory at midday Thursday, though they were lifting off their session lows. The NYSE composite was down 1.7%, the S&P 500 1.4% and the Nasdaq composite 0.9%. Volume was tracking higher across the board.
