I’ve been a “Psychedelic Concierge to the Stars” for the last several years, and I can tell you two things from my experience:
1. It’s extremely rewarding
2. It’s very lucrative
I recently asked the viral AI chat bot, ChatGPT, the definition of a psychedelic concierge, and here’s what it came up with:
“A psychedelic concierge is a professional, who helps individuals navigate the world of psychedelics. This can include assisting with the sourcing and procurement of psychedelics, providing guidance on safe and responsible used, and helping individuals find appropriate medical and therapeutic support. Some psychedelic concierges may also offer additional services such as trip sitting and integration support. In general, a psychedelic concierge acts as a guide and facilitator for individuals interested in exploring the potential benefits of psychedelics.”
For me, this definition makes a lot of sense. After all, it’s very similar to being a concierge at a hotel. Think back to the last time you stayed at a luxury hotel…
If you ask the concierge where you should go for dinner, they will ask you a series of questions to figure out the best recommendation. They may ask you things like what kind of food you like, if you enjoy wine, or if you’d like to have live music. Based on these responses, the concierge pulls from his or her deep knowledge, contacts, and experience to make an accurate recommendation.
With a psychedelic concierge, the questions are different, these will include things like: What is your intent for doing this psychedelic journey and what are the traumas that you are trying to overcome?
Once a psychedelic concierge understands these two questions, they can make a recommendation about what psychedelic experience to have as well as what set and setting you should be in. “Set” refers to the mindset that you go into the journey with, and “Setting” references where you’re doing the trip, and who is with you.
A Recent Psychedelic Concierge Example
My most recent documentary film, Lamar Odom Reborn, follows the psychedelic intervention that I gave basketball superstar Lamar Odom over the last three years.
As his psychedelic concierge, when I asked him about his intent, and his traumas, he told me that his mother passed away when he was only 12 years old, and he had a young son, who passed away as an infant at only six months old.
As a young man, Lamar had never resolved these losses, instead, he would just try to cover it up with drugs and alcohol to escape thinking about the loss. And thanks to his successful basketball career and high profile, he was able to distract himself for years with substances.
Based on this feedback from Lamar, I came up with a specific formula to guide him to a conscious transformation. In Lamar’s case, his formula was Ketamine plus plant medicine, plus a daily practice like meditation, or breathing, equals a conscious transformation.
As a psychedelic concierge, if someone has never had a psychedelic experience, I will often start with ketamine, which is an FDA approved anesthetic that has been shown to be highly effective even against treatment resistant depression.
Lamar’s first 45-minute experience with Ketamine was life-changing. He told me he felt like he went to heaven, and then came back. In his own words, “everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die [with ketamine.] I just went to heaven… and came back."
As I spent more time with Lamar—and he felt more comfortable with me and my guidance—I recommended that he go down to Mexico and sit with a doctor who gives Ibogaine treatments.
Ibogaine is an ancient African root that’s known to be able to break a heroin, opiate, alcohol, gambling addiction in one 12-hour session. I told Lamar that because of his addiction profile, and the fact that he was an African American male, there’s a chance that he was supposed to be interacting with the plant all along—but had been cut off culturally.
Lamar and I journeyed down to Mexico, where he had a life-changing, ibogaine experience. In the trip he was able to hear his mother’s voice, which he hadn’t heard a whisper of in decades. He also saw his young son—who had passed away—grow to be eight or nine years old, then grow to be a teenager in this other dimension.
In this experience alone, Lamar described it as bringing him closer to God. Lamar also told me that he lost his fear of death, and felt so good that, despite being 40 years old, and having 12 strokes and six heart attacks, he was confident that he could make a comeback in professional basketball. With no outside motivation, Lamar trained for six months, and then played in a professional tournament in Dubai, which was his personal Rocky Balboa moment, where he overcame his physical and mental challenges, to fulfill this beautiful dream of a comeback.
Rapid Transformation
One of the best parts about being a Psychedelic concierge is how fast the transformations happen. Other types of coaches can take months or years to achieve the desired goal with psychedelic medicine. The transformations in some cases are immediate. Often, it’s the family members around the subject who notice the significant lifestyle and personality changes that occur seemingly overnight.
If you’re interested in becoming a psychedelic concierge, there are now courses and programs being developed to help you to join this industry. One of the most important things for a psychedelic concierge to do to really help move the needle for clients is to have the direct experience of trying whatever psychedelic medicine they are recommending. This is very important because each psychedelic has a different energy to it—and even a language—to describe it. If a psychedelic concierge has not had that experience, they will not be effective in helping the person to get as much as possible from their experience.
Can This be Lucrative?
How potentially lucrative can being a psychedelic concierge be? Very! Because this is a specialized skill, it is not something that clients can easily find, or just search for as they would another professional. The amount charged has to do with the amount of handholding and guidance that the psychedelic concierge will need to do to help them sit with the right practitioners, and then integrate their experience back into the client’s regular life.
Psychedelic concierges are generally paid thousands of dollars—sometimes, tens of thousands of dollars—and in some cases, six figures. Getting someone off of drugs, or out of a deep depression is life-changing for the individual and their family, who often described getting their family members back, or having that person thrive, is priceless.
Top psychedelic concierges will generally charge for their time but will also have a clause in the contract that says if the subject is clean and sober, enjoying life, one year later they will pay a bonus in the hundreds of thousands to over $1 million.
Coming out of the pandemic, we all realize that we need to pay attention to our mental health, and many are turning to the promise of psychedelic medicine. The pool of potential clients is enormous in the United States alone, one out of four people is struggling with mental health or addiction issues. This massive client pool is making the demand for psychedelic concierges very, very strong (and growing).
