Donald Trump alleged Monday that he was facing a federal indictment because President Joe Biden's poll numbers were sagging.
What Happened: The former president made the claims in a radio interview in Miami. He said, "They're using this because they're losing in the polls. They're losing very big in the polls."
"We're beating Biden by 10 points, 11 points, 12 points. We're beating him very easily. So they're using this because they can't win the election fairly and squarely," reported The Hill.
The White House incumbent has seen a recent dip in terms of favorability, with the latest polls indicating Biden and Trump remain in a close race for a potential rematch in 2024, according to the Hill.
Why It Matters: Notably, Trump's comments were made ahead of an appearance in a Miami federal court where is to face 37 counts of criminal charges, 31 of which are related to the Espionage Act, noted The Hill.
On Tuesday, Trump is expected to appear before Judge Aileen Cannon on the 13th floor of the courthouse in Miami at 3 p.m. EDT.
The former U.S. leader faces fines of up to $9.25 million and up to 400 years of prison time. He is expected to make public remarks in Bedminster, New Jersey on Tuesday night after his court appearance.
He already faces criminal charges in New York related to the payment of alleged hush money to the porn actor Stormy Daniels.
