Football Or Soccer? Google Pixel Mocks iPhone In Playful Ad, Demonstrates Live Translation Skills

The latest installment in Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Google's Pixel vs iPhone ad campaign sees the Pixel 7 Pro poke fun at Apple Inc.'s AAPL iPhone 14 Pro, reviving the "It's football, not soccer" debate.

What Happened: Google has been running a "#BestPhonesForever" ad campaign where the Pixel 7 takes on the iPhone, showing off features not available yet.

The 1-minute-long clip sees the iPhone make a philosophical statement, saying, "You know Pixel, this tournament has taught me that no matter our differences, there are some things that unite us all."

The iPhone then goes off about the Pixel 7's Live Translate feature that allows users to translate in over 20 languages. Live Translate on Pixel phones is powered by AI and the custom Tensor chipset designed by Google.

Soccer Or Football? The iPhone tries to make a comeback, saying, "I'm fluent in the one language the whole world understands."

"What's that, iPhone?", asks Pixel.

"Soccer," the iPhone responds.

That kicks off a long debate between the Pixel and the iPhone – while Pixel tries to win the argument by translating the word "football" into several languages, the iPhone sticks to soccer.

All said and done, it's a fun segment, thanks to the banter. Besides, who doesn't want to see two phones playing football.. err, soccer.
