There is less than one week to file your claim in Meta Platforms Inc.'s META Facebook's $725 million class action data privacy settlement case. You could be entitled to a share if you used Facebook between 2007 and 2022.

What Happened: Meta agreed to settle a series of class action lawsuits filed against Facebook for allowing private parties like Cambridge Analytica to access users' private data without their permission.

As a part of the settlement, Meta agreed to a payout of $725 million. You will have to hurry up since there is less than a week left to make your claim.

Who Is Eligible To File A Claim?

If you are a US citizen and remember using Facebook between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022, you can claim your share in the $725 million settlement.

What Is The Deadline?

The last date to submit claims is August 25, by 11:59 p.m. PT.

How Do I File A Claim?

Here’s how to file your claim:

  • Head over to facebookuserprivacysettlement.com.
  • Once on the page, click on the ‘Submit Claim' button and enter your contact details.
  • Now, enter your preferred method of receiving the payment and click on the ‘Submit' button.

How Much Will I Be Paid?

This is dependent on how many users file a claim. The duration of your Facebook use will also impact your settlement share during the eligible period.

Personal data of nearly 71 million Facebook users in the US was illegally accessed by Cambridge Analytica. Your settlement share will be impacted by how many of these users are eligible to file a claim and how many of them actually file.

When Will I Be Paid?

It is not yet clear exactly when the settlement payouts will be made.

"Settlement payments will be distributed as soon as possible if the Court grants Final Approval of the Settlement and after any appeals are resolved," the official website says.
