During Wednesday’s Q3 earnings call, Meta Platform‘s META CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed his “Twitter Killer” Threads had successfully clocked just under 100 million monthly users.
Threads, the online social media and networking service launched by META back in July 2023 had earlier been accused by X owner Elon Musk to be “boring people to death.” Zuckerberg now sees a good chance of it crossing a billion users in a few years.
X Vs. Threads
The heat between Musk’s X (formerly known as Twitter) Zuckerberg’s Threads never seems to die down. Statements from Meta’s Q3 earnings call and a recent interview dispel any speculations about Threads’ early downfall.
Zuckerberg sees Threads as a “billion-person public conversations app that is a bit more positive.” On the other hand, the Meta CEO sees Twitter as a place that “indexes very strongly on just being quite negative and critical.”

Meta AI In Threads – A Game-Changing Development
On incorporating Meta AI into the various realms of Meta Platforms’ businesses, the Meta CEO talked about photorealistic image generators being incorporated into group chats on Threads.
“So we're starting with Meta AI. You can just invoke it in any thread. Like, I could be having a one-on-one thread with you, and I could just ask Meta AI something. I can do that in a group chat thread,” he said. “So I think that that's going to be really fun, right? It's just having these kinds of fun personalities in these threads, I think, will create sort of an interesting dynamic.”
Given that this feature is fast and free, Zuckerberg believes this development could be “game changing” for the application.
Compelling Long-Term Opportunity
On the earnings call, Meta’s CFO, Susan Li said that she sees Threads as a “compelling long-term opportunity”. Li added that she’s excited to build on the strong product momentum they already have going, into next year.
In a recent interview with The Verge, Zuckerberg said, “We're three months in now, and I'm very happy with the trajectory.”
