Vint: Rare Rum Cask Collection (Last Call)

While most people think of fine wines and whisky as investments, rum has gained traction.

High-end wine and spirit investment platform Vint is nearing the close of an investment fund for a collection of fine rum from renowned Carribean distilleries. The fractional investment platform builds collections of the world's most sought-after investment-grade wine and spirits and offers fractional shares of the collections to prospective investors.

While most people think of fine wines and whisky as investments, rum has gained traction.

"It is a long way from saying that the attractiveness of rum exceeds that of whisky, as whisky sales are much more numerous. But the fact remains that rum is the new territory that is being cleared by both established and budding speculators," Fabien Humbert wrote in a recent Rumporter article.

Rum as an appreciating asset benefits from limited production and an extended aging period. As fine rums have become more coveted as collectibles, the demand and value for casks produced by independent bottlers and enthusiasts have increased.

This collection available to investors consists of five casks produced by renowned distilleries, including Clarendon Distillers Ltd., Foursquare Rum Distillery, Demerara Distillers Ltd. Diamond Distillery and Trinidad Distillers Ltd. Each cask has been aged between eight and 11 years and are all diverse in their styles of blend.

An attractive and perhaps value-adding detail in regard to the collection's aging process is that each cask has been aged in the Caribbean and in Europe. The strategy behind shipping the casks from their distillery of origin to Europe is that they initially receive flavor-intensifying aging in the tropical climate and become more refined in the European climate. Both work to optimize and enrich the flavor and value of each distilled product.

As of Oct. 27, there are roughly 20% of shares in the collection are still available to investors. The 820 shares of the collection are listed for $100 each, creating a market cap of $82,000. Should prospective investors miss the boat on this rare rum collection, Vint is frequently adding new collections of highly sought-after wine and spirits to the platform.
