  • 'Grand Theft Auto VI' could join the ranks of the decade's most significant releases following its predecessor's massive success.

In what could be a major boost for Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. TTWO, its subsidiary Rockstar Games is reportedly on the brink of announcing the eagerly-anticipated ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ game as early as this week.

What Happened: Rockstar is planning to unveil the game trailer next month, coinciding with Rockstar’s 25th anniversary, reported Bloomberg.

‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ is expected to be one of the most monumental entertainment releases of the decade, with fan and investor anticipation reaching fever pitch. Its predecessor, ‘Grand Theft Auto V’, proved a runaway success, selling over 185 million copies and only trailing ‘Minecraft’ in the list of best-selling video games of all time.

In recent years, Rockstar has made concerted efforts to enhance its corporate culture and work-life balance. This followed complaints of employee burnout during the 2018 production of ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’.

In an unfortunate incident last year, hackers leaked numerous hours of preliminary footage from ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’. Rockstar attributed this to a “network intrusion”, assuring fans that the game would be officially introduced when ready. The game is rumored to be set in a fictionalized Miami and features two lead characters – a man and a woman.

The parent company, Take-Two Interactive, is scheduled to report its earnings on Wednesday.
