Trump's Mysterious Hand Marks Spark 'Herpes' Speculations: Dermatologist Says It's Not What You Think

A dermatologist offered some possible explanations after Former President Donald Trump was seen with mysterious red marks on his hand, sparking speculation about his health.

What Happened: Trump was photographed with red marks on his hand as he left his New York residence to attend the second defamation trial of E. Jean Carroll, reported Business Insider.

People on social media quickly began speculating about the cause of the marks, suggesting everything from “hand herpes” to a recent fall.

Dr. Joshua Zeichner, an associate professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, shared his insights on the matter. He told the publication that the red marks were likely a rash, which can be caused by a wide range of factors, from infections to external exposures.

“Rashes on the hands can be caused by a variety of factors, ranging from infections to inflammatory conditions to external exposures,” Zeichner said.

Zeichner offered four possible causes for the rash, all of which are less dramatic than the internet’s theories. He suggested that dryness and overwashing, common in winter, could be the cause. He also mentioned blisters from activities like golf, weightlifting, or baseball, and even a “margarita burn” from lime juice exposure in sunlight.

Zeichner emphasized that hand rashes can be caused by almost anything, including bug bites, and unless Trump confirms the cause, it may remain a mystery.

Benzinga is still waiting for a response from the Trump campaign and Zeichner at the time of publishing.

Why It Matters: Trump’s health has been a topic of public interest for some time. Last year, Democratic strategist James Carville expressed concern about Trump’s health amidst ongoing political stress, saying that Trump’s legal battles and personal well-being could potentially hinder his chances of securing the nomination.

However, his former White House doctor, Rep. Ronny Jackson, had lauded Trump’s health, despite the former president’s famously unorthodox diet and exercise habits. He said he could live to be 200 due to his “incredibly good genes.”

In November, Trump’s personal physician, Dr. Bruce Aronwald, also confirmed that the former president was in “excellent” health, saying that his physical and cognitive exams were exceptional. He went on to add that Trump's lab results were "well within normal limits" and showed improvement in "some of the most significant parameters."

Despite facing numerous legal cases, the former president is the leading frontrunner in. the Republican primary race. According to Real Clear Politics, at the national level, Trump held 61.4% support among GOP voters, While Haley trailed with 12% support and DeSantis with 10.7%.
