Anthony Scaramucci Says Kamala Harris Will Have 'Historic' Win Against Trump If The Vice President Does This: 'She's Going To Be Able To Break Out Of That Shroud'

Zinger Key Points
  • Obama is telling people he doesn't think the black woman can beat the very white Trump, says Scaramucci.
  • He thinks Harris will get the nomination since the Clintons, who own a big chunk of the party, have backed her.

Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci on Sunday weighed in on the presidential election landscape, specifically from the perspective of the Democratic party, following President Joe Biden quitting the race.

Coronation or Open Convention? “There is identity politics at play in the Democratic party,” said Scaramucci in an emergency episode of the Rest Is Politics US podcast.

The party wanted an African-American woman, the first woman vice president, on the ticket, Scaramucci said referring to Kamala Harris. But it was interesting that the first African-American president was not endorsing her. Former President Barack Obama suggested in the post that he was all for an open nomination. “I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges,” Obama said.

Making sense of the announcement, Scaramucci said, “Barack Obama is tipping his cards. Here he’s telling people he doesn’t think the black woman can beat the very white or very orange Donald Trump.”

Scaramucci, a businessman and founder of the investment firm SkyBridge Capital, however, thinks Harris will get the nomination. Giving the rationale for his deduction, he said Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, who own a big piece of the Democratic party have galvanized around her.

Formidable Candidate: Recounting a trip with Harris to Israel in 2017, Scaramucci said she is “way more formidable than the right-wing media has boxed her and social media….. chopping her up and making her look like she’s laughing all the time.”

The vice president has a good record and has got a lot of energy and she was not going to be malapropping like Trump or Biden, he said.

Citing a source, Scaramucci said “This is more or less a fait accompli” for Harris. He also questioned why Obama was holding out. “I don’t understand where Barack Obama is coming from on this. I am not exactly sure why he didn’t endorse her in a domino effect alongside Biden and Clinton which would have helped her,” he said.

The ex-White House aide said he expects the vice president to break out and show the full form of her personality. “She’s going to be able to break out of that shroud,” he said, adding that she has got tireless amount of energy and a tireless amount of ambition.

“I would not underestimate her and she’s benefiting from low expectations.”

Republicans’ Reaction: Scaramucci said the Republicans are “super worried” about the developments. Citing insiders in the campaign, he said, they were very upset with Sen. J.D. Vance’s (R-Ohio) vice presidential nomination speech.

“Trump didn’t like the speech; you could tell from his body language,” Scaramucci said. “Trump doesn’t like smart people, he particularly doesn’t like people that could potentially outshine him,” he said, adding that Vance’s speech looked more vice presidential.

Weighing in on the chances of Harris winning against Trump, Scaramucci said if she gets this nomination and she shows up as a Condoleezza Rice, she’s going to win the election. Rice, a Black woman, has served as the Secretary of State under George W. Bush. “If she shows up as Vice President Kamala Harris over the last three and a half years she’s gonna get trounced,” he said. “But if she shows up as capable as she is, unguarded and unintimidated, she is going to have a historic win,” he added.
